France Increases Residency And Naturalization Fees

The French government is reportedly planning to implement new tuition fees for approximately 90% of students coming from outside the European Union, starting in the fall of 2026. This policy shift is expected to directly impact the demand for studies from non-EU students, including those from Morocco. Several administrative procedures for foreign nationals in France will become more expensive. The initial issuance of a residence permit will rise to 350 euros from a previous rate of 225 euros. Reduced rates for certain permits are also expected to nearly double. Renewal costs are also projected to increase. Students and workers are exempt from this price hike, according to the report. Additionally, university students, including scholarship recipients and doctoral candidates, will be eligible for 1-euro meals in university restaurants starting May 4.

French Mutual Termination Agreements Decrease For First Time In 18 Years

The French Ministry of Labour reported a decrease in 'ruptures conventionnelles,' which are mutual termination agreements between employers and employees. A total of 538,400 agreements were validated during the year. This figure represents a 1% decrease compared to the previous year. This marks the first time the number of these agreements has declined since the system was established 18 years ago. The decline was observed across most age groups, though agreements for workers over 50 years old saw a slight increase. Reductions were noted in the transport, commerce, and construction sectors. Only four sectors—information, communication, agriculture, and industry—recorded more terminations in 2024 than in 2023. Analysts suggest the decline may be linked to a degraded economic situation.
