France Increases Residency And Naturalization Fees

CRI News Radio Paris 16d11d Impact 6

The French government is reportedly planning to implement new tuition fees for approximately 90% of students coming from outside the European Union, starting in the fall of 2026. This policy shift is expected to directly impact the demand for studies from non-EU students, including those from Morocco. Several administrative procedures for foreign nationals in France will become more expensive. The initial issuance of a residence permit will rise to 350 euros from a previous rate of 225 euros. Reduced rates for certain permits are also expected to nearly double. Renewal costs are also projected to increase. Students and workers are exempt from this price hike, according to the report. Additionally, university students, including scholarship recipients and doctoral candidates, will be eligible for 1-euro meals in university restaurants starting May 4.

Charente-Maritime will also implement a suspension of driving licenses for phone usage while driving, joining regions such as Calais, Lot-et-Garonne, and Eure. This change affects the cost of requesting residency titles across the country. Fees for naturalization applications have risen from 55 euros to 255 euros.
