Algarvensis Geopark Joins UNESCO Network

The move enhances international recognition for Portugal's geological heritage. The recognition highlights the park's scientific, environmental, and cultural value. The move is intended to enhance Tunisia's international presence and promote the site's geological significance. The designation follows a process completed in November 2024 and expert inspections conducted in Tunisia in May 2025. The project covers an area of approximately 6,000 square kilometers. The UNESCO Scientific Committee approved the designation during a session last November.
