Former Venezuelan Minister Extradited For Financial Crimes
Alex Saab, an ally of Nicolás Maduro, has been extradited to the United States. A complaint unsealed Friday states that Al-Sadi, who has ties to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, wanted to attack a New York City synagogue. Saab is described as a close associate of Venezuelan leadership. He was arrested in 2020 and pardoned in 2023 as part of a prisoner swap. He was pardoned by President Joe Biden. The extradition was confirmed by the government in Caracas. It is unclear what specific charges he is facing, but he is accused of planning terrorist attacks across the country. prosecutors allege Saab held top posts in Venezuela's Ministry of Industry and coordinated Islamic State operations. He is accused of financial crimes and coordinating operations including media activities, production, and drone development.
