Invasive Jumping Worms Found In 38 US States

Officials in Colorado and across the Western United States have issued warnings regarding an invasion of destructive jumping worms. These invasive species threaten local ecosystems and soil health. The spread is being monitored by environmental authorities to mitigate impact on regional agriculture and natural habitats. Invasive jumping worm species have been identified in 38 states, including New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Colorado, Georgia, and California. These worms can grow up to six inches in length and appear in red, brown, or metallic colors. Experts warn that the worms consume essential soil nutrients required for plant growth.
