Russian Small Businesses Report Q1 Losses
Sixty-five percent of surveyed enterprises in Russia did not receive profits following the first quarter. Small businesses operating with turnovers under 20 million rubles are currently working without profit, according to Business FM Russia. Major businesses remain more resilient but have frozen investments. Most surveyed companies prefer placing free funds in deposits and are planning for no more than 12 months. Stagnation is attributed to low demand, rising taxes, and high interest rates. Marketplace commissions on platforms like Wildberries are also increasing, reducing seller revenue. In some local areas, small shops are closing or facing reduced competition as customers migrate to larger retailers. One artist from Saint Petersburg, Stanislav Merzlikov, reported a decline in incoming orders.
