Russian Troop Losses in Ukraine Exceed 1.35 Million

Ukraine has reported a prisoner exchange with Russia, with 175 Ukrainian soldiers returning home. Ukraine maintains its position that it will not retreat from its legal territory in exchange for any ceasefire or peace deal with Russia. This stance is seen as for national unity and the vision to defeat Russia. The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) has released its latest assessment of the Russian offensive campaign in Ukraine as of May 16, 2026. Eight people were injured in overnight Russian drone strikes and shelling. In the past week, Russian forces launched more than 3,170 attack drones, over 1,300 guided aerial bombs, and 74 missiles against Ukraine. Many of these strikes hit residential areas. Ukrainian President Zelensky stated that Russia launched over 3,170 strike drones, 1,300 KAB glide bombs, and 74 missiles at Ukraine this week. These attacks resulted in 52 deaths and 346 injuries. The General Staff of Ukraine reported that Russian forces have lost 1,350,010 troops since February 24, 2022. The report also stated that 1,220 Russian casualties were suffered in the past day.
