Driver Charged In Fatal Swarthmore Professor Crash

Upper Darby Police said a driver named Poole killed Swarthmore College mathematics professor Einstein in a collision at West Providence Road and East Penn Pines Boulevard. Poole, who held a learner's permit, reportedly tested positive for marijuana and failed to yield while making a left turn. Einstein was reportedly following bicycle laws at the time of the accident. Einstein was a father of two and was one of 28 bicyclists killed on Pennsylvania roads last year. A celebration of life service is planned for June 20th in Swarthmore. Upper Darby police charged 18-year-old Callie Poole of Collingdale with homicide by vehicle following a December 3rd accident. Prosecutors allege Poole struck and killed 39-year-old Edward Teddy Einstein, a Swarthmore professor, while biking in Upper Darby. Charges include homicide by vehicle while under the influence, DUI, and operating without a license.
