Portuguese Nationality Bill Creates Loss Of Nationality Penalty
The Socialist Party (PS) again sent a diploma concerning the loss of Portuguese nationality for inspection. A new, revised version of this diploma was subsequently approved by the PSD, Chega, Liberal Initiative, and CDS parties. Judges in Portugal had previously rejected a first version of a law concerning the loss of nationality as an accessory penalty for certain crimes. Right-wing parties are involved in the ongoing legislative process, which now includes a judge applying this penalty. The bill, which provides for the loss of nationality, was scheduled for a declaration. The Portuguese Assembly of the Republic has issued Decree number 49, which creates an accessory penalty of loss of nationality within the Penal Code.
