Guatemala Sells Carbon Credits To World Bank
Guatemala has achieved a historic milestone by selling carbon credits to the World Bank. The initiative involved a multi-agency mission including MAGA, MARN, MINFIL, INAP, and CONAP. The program supported over 1,000 forestry projects and benefited more than 230,000 people. The sale generated 175 million quetzales for forest conservation efforts. The results are expected to benefit more than 230,000 people directly and indirectly. Projects that did not receive payment by the end of 2025 are scheduled to receive partial payments in the first quarter of 2026. The board noted that global economic growth perspectives remain positive for the current and upcoming year. This outlook is reportedly driven by resilient private consumption. The decision was announced by Winston Kano.
