Berlin Schools Expand First Aid Training For Students
The Berlin Cosmopolitan School intends to make first aid a permanent part of its curriculum. The program follows models used in countries like Sweden, Norway, and France. The Berlin Senate intends to expand resuscitation training to all secondary schools in the city through a new cooperation with the ADAC Foundation. Currently, more than 70 secondary schools participate in the 'Berliner Schüler retten Leben' project. Marianne Filler of the Malteser in Berlin stated that the goal is to establish first aid and resuscitation as fundamental social competencies in daily school life. The fire department is responsible for the ultimate oversight of fire safety, even when other departments handle specific aspects like fire doors. Mia Vohland from the school first aid service at Neue Gesamtschule Babelsberg in Potsdam reported that student numbers at her school grew from eight to 20.
