Ancient Chinese Texts Detail Women's Political Roles
In 209 BCE, a force of over 900 people marched north from the Huai River basin towards Yuyang. For example, Empress Lu and Fan Kuai's wife received titles. Han Lan Ying, a talented woman, entered the palace and served two dynasties, accompanying seven rulers. The Song Dynasty's censorate was a powerful supervisory body responsible for impeaching officials and handling cases assigned by the emperor. Examples cited include empresses like Empress Lu and noblewomen holding titles and receiving fiefs. The Song Dynasty's Censorate, an inspection agency, operated with high authority, overseeing officials and cases through its three departments: Taiyuan, Dianyuan, and Chayuan. Ancient Chinese texts describe women holding political influence, citing examples such as Empress Dowager Lü and noble daughters granted marquis titles.
