Yunlin County Leader Criticizes Agricultural Minister

Yunlin County leader Chang Li-shan expressed regret regarding the lack of advocacy for farmers by the Minister of Agriculture. Chang noted that Yunlin ranks first in Taiwan for agricultural output and stated that local leaders must voice opinions to protect agricultural product value. The criticism follows comments by Chen Chun-chi suggesting agriculture should not be used for political maneuvering and that farmers are not easily incited. Chang argued that farmers are primarily concerned with the marketability and pricing of their products. The county, which produces 90% of Taiwan's soybeans, faces impact from zero-tariff US imports. Chang argued that the Ministry's advice for farmers to switch crops is impractical.
