Boat Sinks Off Waitangi Coast
A boat has sunk off the coast of Waitangi in the Bay of Islands. Three people have been found alive after their vessels sank near Waitangi overnight. Coast guards began searching early this morning after one person reached the shore to raise the alarm. A small boat carrying three people sank at approximately 3:00 AM near Brampton Reef, north of Waitangi. Search and Rescue crews located the second person on shore and the third person in the water. Coast Guard skipper Rafe Tolmash stated that the men appeared to be not wearing life jackets during the incident. Tolmash noted that the survivors were lucky as conditions were in their favor. This incident occurred at the same location where police conducted a major search and rescue operation two weeks ago. A boat sank in the Bay of Islands on Friday morning, resulting in the loss of the vessel.
