Ancient Cemetery Remains Found During Cable Construction

Archaeologists discovered parts of a cemetery during construction of a power line in the Werra-Meißner district. Excavators uncovered urns filled with bone ash near Unterrieden. Experts from the State Monument Office in Wiesbaden are currently analyzing the contents of two ceramic vessels, one large and one significantly smaller. District archaeologist Eveline Saal noted the findings during the process. An anthropologist identified remains of an adult and a small child within urns. The child's remains were found in a smaller vessel, while the adult remains were in a larger urn. Archaeologists in Unterrieden have recovered an urn containing human remains and grave goods. The findings include a tiny finger ring and a small cup found within a child's urn. Eveline Saal suggested the cup may indicate burial rituals involving a drink consumed at the grave.
