China Develops New Melon Varieties
Wu Mingzhu has dedicated over fifty years to agricultural technology work in the Turpan Basin, Xinjiang. Researchers have collected and organized local crop varieties in Xinjiang, preserving endangered resources. Xinjiang's agricultural sector is seeing improvements due to the collection and organization of local crop varieties. New breeding techniques, including cross-breeding and radiation breeding, have been employed to develop new planting resources. Long-term cultivation in both Hainan and Xinjiang allows for year-round high-speed planting. Xinjiang has developed a complete innovation system for melon breeding, utilizing advanced techniques such as conventional breeding, multi-parental crossbreeding, and radiation breeding. This system incorporates traditional methods alongside advanced techniques such as radiation and biotechnology breeding.
