Mount Dukono Eruption Spews Ash 10 Kilometers, 15 Rescued
Police in Indonesia reported that three hikers were killed when Mount Dukono volcano erupted on Friday morning. Two of the deceased are from Singapore, and others are still missing. Dukono Volcano in Indonesia's North Maluku province erupted around 7 AM local time on Friday. A three-week categorical ban on tourist movement was in effect in the area of the Dukono volcano eruption on Indonesia's Halmahera island. Toxic volcanic ash is now moving, threatening the health of residents in the region. Later media updates indicated eight cases related to the Dukono Volcano eruption, including three fatalities. An outbreak has occurred on the cruise ship MV Ondus, with eight cases reported, including three fatalities. The World Health Organization (WHO) announced that more cases are possible, noting that the incubation period can extend up to six weeks.
