Ghana Identified As Reliable Partner For Carbon Credits
The largest cement plant utilizing technology to replace clinker with clay has opened in the port city of Tema, Ghana. The process involves experimenting with alternative materials such as shale instead of clay. The project is expected to generate carbon reduction certificates, which are increasingly in demand for industries unable to reduce direct emissions, such as aviation. Switzerland is reportedly looking to Ghana as a reliable partner for purchasing such reduction certificates to meet its climate goals. No final financial commitment from Switzerland has been made yet. Projects involving cement with clay content are currently being evaluated for CO2 compensation. The plant may receive financial support from Switzerland in the near future, according to Klaus Ammann.
