Moroccan Phosphates Office Discusses Imports with France

Phosphate mining operations in the Rodebga region of Morocco have transitioned from underground to open-pit methods. Consequently, employment policies in the region have undergone a change. Morocco's phosphate mines are transitioning to open-pit mining operations. The OCP Group has implemented new environmental responsibility mechanisms and is focusing on water resource management. The company has developed a seawater desalination plant near the city of Tarfaya to supply water to the Bou Craa mining site. This shift occurred in parallel with the 1970s Green March and Morocco's de facto administration of the region. OCP began acquiring stakes in the mining company during this period. The Office Chérifien des Phosphates, a Moroccan entity, is discussing import matters. This follows earlier reports of instability affecting Moroccan resources and fertilizer prices.
