He served 61 years as a priest and 39 years as a bishop. Michalchik served as the Metropolitan of Przemyśl from 1993 to 2016. He was ordained as a bishop by Pope John Paul II. A former bishop of the Zielona Góra-Gorzów diocese and later a metropolitan archbishop has died at the age of 85 in May.

Half Million Scanned Ukrainian Documents Arrive In Przemyśl

The State Archive in Przemyśl received 43,000 new scans of documents from Ukraine. Additional couples continue to submit applications to civil registry offices. These records include information regarding schools, teachers, and students from the pre-war Lwow Voivodeship. Archive director Elżbieta Laska stated the documents arrived through cooperation with archives in Lviv. The archive annually receives scans of Polish documents that were located across the eastern border following World War II. The records will be added to the archive's permanent collection. Archive director Elżbieta Laska confirmed the arrival of the copies, which resulted from cooperation with archives in Lwów. Approximately 43,000 document scans have arrived in Przemyśl. Over 500,000 digital scans of historical Ukrainian documents have been transferred to an archive in Przemyśl.
