Pinglu Canal Bridge Project Reaches Completion
This opening marks the completion of all 27 canal-crossing bridges within the Pinglu Canal project. The bridge features a 270-meter main span and 19.3-meter navigation clearance to support 5,000-ton vessels. Its opening completes all 27 bridges along the Pinglu Canal for full-line navigation. The infrastructure development includes supporting works for the canal system. The new bridge design preserves the aesthetic of the original old bridge while providing upgraded infrastructure. The main bridge was widened by 4.5% and its length was extended by 587 meters. Additionally, the navigation clearance height was increased by 9.3 meters, according to engineer Yuan Minyang. The Pinglu Canal, the first canal connecting inland waters to the sea since the founding of the People's Republic of China, is scheduled for full operation in September.
