Two US Service Members Missing Off North Africa

Two US service members participating in the African Lion 2026 exercise went missing in a training area near Moulouga, Morocco. The exercise involves over 7,000 personnel from more than 30 nations. forces, NATO allies, and African partners. Relatives of the service members have had no news of them as of midnight. Search operations involving helicopters, planes, and drones are underway where the Sahara Desert meets the Atlantic Ocean. CBS News correspondent Chris Lisey reported that helicopters were heard throughout the night and continued into the morning. The missing service members were taking part in activities in the southwestern region of Morocco, according to WTOP. Two United States service members are reported missing in southwestern Morocco. The disappearance occurred following their participation in military exercises, according to United States Africa Command.
