The first phase of a new wetland designed to improve water quality in Lake Horofenua is weeks away from completion. For years, sewage from Levin was pumped into the lake, and excess nitrogen continues to make the water harmful to humans.

Four individuals were arrested in Levin, north of Wellington, following a spree of shoplifting incidents. The group allegedly stole clothing and approximately $1,700 worth of meat from Iparapara Umu Mall. Police also linked them to earlier thefts totaling over $5,000.
