Leiria Municipality Proposes Forest Clearing Plan

The main paths of the Leiria National Forest are practically clear and will be cleaned before summer and the high-risk period for forest fires. The paths within the forest have been cleared. Work on the ground began on March 28, initially focusing on more emergent and public interest situations. Over 3,500 kilometers of paths in Portugal's forests have been cleared by the ICNF as of April 23. While efforts are ongoing with available resources, secondary paths in the Leiria forest still require work. Authorities are working to clear over 7,000 hectares of forest and more than 200 kilometers of paths. The Leiria Chamber is currently working on road shoulders and paths. The report noted that neither the government nor private entities have reached a conclusion on a unified national approach to the desolation of dead forest areas.
