Earthquake Near Kathoi Measured At 5.1 Magnitude

A 5.1 magnitude earthquake occurred approximately 10 kilometers north of Kathoi. The tremor lasted for about 1.4 minutes. Scientists are currently monitoring the area for further seismic activity. The event was reported as a momentary increase in activity in the region. Scientists cannot confirm all details immediately following the tremor. This 5.1 reading is the highest magnitude recorded by the station so far, though it is not yet considered the final measurement. Officials are expected to review the data as seismographs within the network show fluctuations. Previous readings in the area had been reported around 4.7 or 4.8. Local officials, including Deputy Mayor Georgios Mazouros, previously reported no damage from a prior 4.7 magnitude tremor. Authorities are now assessing potential impact from this 5.1 magnitude event.
