Human bone remains from the Iberian period, confirmed as ashes, were sampled in 2011 at the Cerro de los Santos archaeological site. This site is one of the most for the Iberian era and its artifacts are housed in the National Archaeological Museum. A watchmaker named Vicente Amat from Giecla is known to have falsified many pieces from this period. Similar falsifications, including ivory figurines and small chests passed off as Arab artifacts, were also sold to the British Museum and the Louvre by an artist named Soroya. Soroya, a master sculptor in ivory, lost his reputation by selling falsified pieces as ancient and historical. Another individual, Corroyel Rosau, from the Bastida site in Murcia, also falsified many pieces.
