Democraten Gorkum Retains Largest Party Status In Local Election
Approximately 31,000 eligible voters in Gorkum are scheduled to cast ballots today in a special election. Local authorities expressed hope that turnout will increase throughout the remainder of the day despite the mid-July holiday period. The mayor noted that the Turkish community was particularly affected by the previous electoral issues. Voter turnout in Gorkum was slightly lower for this round. Democrats Gorkum remains the largest party with seven seats. Stadsbelang Gorkum secured five seats, while D66 obtained one fewer seat than in March. The CDA gained one additional seat. One CDA candidate was reportedly linked in the media to potential fraud, which led to a re-election in Gorkum. Stadsbelang Gorkum followed with 5 seats, while S60 secured 1 seat. Voting patterns reportedly remained similar to the elections held in March.
