Four firearm attacks have occurred in Gießen in recent weeks, involving various groups.

The Gießen district in Hesse has become the first in Germany to introduce a night driving ban for robots. The measure is intended to address feedback effects related to the jetstream. The ban is being implemented by the Erster Hessischer Landkreis. The ban, issued via a general decree by the local nature conservation authority, prohibits operation from 30 minutes before sunset until 30 minutes after sunrise. Officials cited the acute danger these machines pose to hedgehogs as the primary reason for the restriction. A 2023 test in Denmark involving 18 robotic mowers supported the necessity of such measures. The measure aims to protect hedgehogs from being harmed by the machines during nighttime hours.
