Hessenwasser Progresses On Ried Drinking Water Project
Hessenwasser is constructing the new Riedleitung pipeline to serve the Rhine-Main region. Construction crews are currently laying approximately 50 meters of these pipeline sections per day. Much of the installation involves placing pipes in trenches, including work at a wastewater treatment plant in Wolfskehlen. The project aims to cover growing demand peaks caused by climate-related heatwaves, such as those seen in 2020. The largest section of the pipeline is expected to begin transporting water by 2028. The infrastructure is designed to manage rising water requirements projected over the next 20 to 30 years. Approximately 40 percent of the drinking water in the Rhine-Main area is supplied through these pipelines. Workers are burying segments daily, using underground drilling for sections beneath highways, railways, and treatment plants like the one in Wolfskelen.
