Approximately 210 law enforcement officers are conducting searches in the Euskirchen prison and several residences belonging to judicial employees. The operations are taking place in the Euskirchen district, Rhein-Erft-Kreis, and Leverkusen. Authorities are investigating suspected corruption involving judicial staff. The searches follow reports of potential misconduct within the prison system. Police conducted searches at a correctional facility, an office at the Euskirchen District Court, and several apartments belonging to judicial officials. Police conducted searches at parts of the Euskirchen Correctional Facility and several residences in the Rhineland on Wednesday morning. Two hundred and ten police officers participated in the operation. Eight justice employees are suspected of granting inmates unauthorized prison leave in exchange for payments.
