NRW to Cut 17,000 Kindergarten Spots
The Family Ministry of North Rhine-Westphalia has announced that the number of early childhood education spots will significantly decrease. This reduction affects places in daycare centers and with childminders. The announcement comes amidst discussions about the future of childcare and the Child Education Law (Kibitz). North Rhine-Westphalia will have approximately 17,000 fewer kindergarten care spots in the upcoming kindergarten year. Around 8,000 of these cuts will affect children under three years old, primarily impacting daycare providers. The ministry attributes this reduction to declining birth rates, though some municipalities may increase spots if necessary.
