Hong Kong Discusses Urban Planning And Development
Former principals Zhang Baozhu and Liu Hanrong discussed the local customs and history of Cheung Chau island. Discussions focused on community planning and urban management, particularly in the Sha Tin district. Sha Tin was historically considered the end of the New Territories, with its development influenced by the former Sha Tin Sea, now Shing Mun River. The discussion also touched upon potential freight routes and the historical presence of Tanka people in the area. The report mentioned the resettlement of Tanka people into a fishing village called 'Agongguo' near Sha Tin Sea, indicating a decline in the local fishing industry. Enforcement actions target offenses such as littering and illegal tourism. An average of 2,900 visitors per day were recorded in Sai Kung during the holiday period.

Approximately 1,000 visitors are expected daily during the May Day Golden Week. Measures include broadcasting reminders to tourists and distributing waterproof map cards to snorkelers that include snorkeling rules. Officials are also promoting coral-friendly routes based on baseline surveys conducted with the World Reef Foundation since late last year.
