An investigation by the Gecko Project revealed that vast areas of tropical rainforest on Borneo have been cleared for plantations. These plantations supply a packaging manufacturer that maintains a non-deforestation policy.

New bridges have been constructed in Borneo's rainforest to allow great apes to cross a paved road. Local authorities and associations hope these structures will lessen the impact of infrastructure development on critically endangered primate species. A young male ape was observed cautiously using one of the bridges. This initiative aims to improve connectivity for the ape populations.
