Publishers Sue Anna's Archive for $19.5 Million
Five publishing entities have filed a lawsuit against Meta and its CEO Mark Zuckerberg. The complaint alleges Meta's Llama generative AI was trained using unauthorized copies of millions of books and articles. The lawsuit further claims Meta illegally removed copyrighted information from these materials. Plaintiffs describe the training process as one of the most infringements of copyrighted materials in history. Publishers and author Scott Turow allege in a lawsuit that Mark Zuckerberg personally authorized and encouraged copyright infringement to train Meta's AI systems. Publishers including Elsevier, Aschett Book Group, and Macmillan have filed lawsuits against Meta. The plaintiffs allege that Meta was aware its practices violated copyright laws. Publishers are seeking $19.5 million and a domain takedown order against Anna's Archive.
