New Satellite to Monitor Plant Health

France Info Paris 44d44d Impact 5
Thales project lead Thierry Huiban is developing the Flex instrument to monitor plant photosynthesis via satellite. The technology detects energy dissipation in the form of heat and fluorescence caused by water stress, high temperatures, or wind. If successful, the instruments may be deployed on future Copernicus European Earth observation satellites. Scientists will soon deploy a specialized satellite designed to analyze the health of vegetation, forests, and crops. This tool aims to evaluate the impact of climate change on plant life. The satellite will provide data to assess environmental shifts in vegetation.
