SNCF Announces Major Rail Network Modernization
SNCF is conducting a two-and-a-half-day modernization project to replace and digitize the rail signaling system. Approximately 500 operators from across France are participating in the effort to transition from manual button-operated mechanisms to a single digital control center. The work was scheduled for the May 1st holiday to minimize disruption for the 700,000 daily commuters using the RER and Transilien networks. Discount retailer Aldi is installing security gates and anti-theft portals across more than 1,300 stores in France. The company expects theft losses to cost at least 75 million euros. Rail traffic will be interrupted at stations in Lyon and Bercy starting Thursday at 10:00 PM. Service is expected to remain suspended until Sunday at noon. The project aims to modernize existing infrastructure.
