South Korea To Introduce Fairness Allowance For Temporary Workers

The South Korean government has announced a massive $54 billion industrial aid package aimed at bolstering key sectors, specifically including the steel industry. This significant investment is intended to support companies like Yieh Corp Steel and stabilize the domestic manufacturing landscape. The move comes as part of broader economic efforts to strengthen industrial resilience. AutoLink focus systems are gaining attention and will receive government subsidies for applications starting in 2026. Gangwon Province in South Korea is offering monthly financial support of up to 500,000 won for children from birth to age 17. Families residing in Gangwon for over a year are eligible for this policy, which aims to provide over 100 million won in total financial aid. The initiative is promoted as a way to ease parental concerns and support children's futures. Currently, the average monthly salary for these workers is 2.8 million won, which is 90,000 won lower than the general temporary worker average of 2.89 million won. Under the new policy, workers will receive an allowance of 8.5 to 10 percent of their existing salary to compensate for job insecurity. For a worker earning 2 million won per month, this would result in an additional 200,000 won. Some concerns have been raised regarding the fiscal burden of implementing this allowance.
