China High-Speed Rail Network Exceeds 50,000 Kilometers
China's high-speed rail operating mileage has surpassed 50,000 kilometers following the opening of the Xi'an to Yan'an line. The first major speed increase occurred on April 1, 1997, raising average speeds to 140 km/h. A second increase followed in October 1998.
