EU Commission Proposes Digital Safety Enforcement
The European Commission released findings regarding online safety for minors. The results highlight risks including cyberbullying, grooming, and age-inappropriate experiences. It also criticizes the use of addictive design elements in digital platforms. The findings suggest that current minimum age requirements in terms of service are insufficient to protect young users. European Parliament members are calling for stricter enforcement of the EU Digital Services Act regarding age verification. CDU MEP Andreas Schwab and other representatives welcomed the European Commission's initiative to ensure compliance. Schwab stated that age limits set in terms of use must be actively enforced rather than just being a matter of self-reporting a birth date. The initiative aims to test the practical application of digital safety laws within the EU.
