Cybersecurity Incidents Rise 40% In Portugal

Portugal has recorded a 40 percent increase in cyber incidents compared to the previous year. Approximately 70 percent of these complaints involved sexual abuse of minors, while 33 percent related to hate speech. Raquel Brise da Castro, Vice-President of the National Communications Authority, stated during a parliamentary hearing that communication secrecy remains protected under the Portuguese Constitution until it is formally amended. Castro noted that criminal proceedings are required for any interference with communication secrecy. She also recommended the creation of a transitional regime until new digital protection measures take effect. Information security incidents in Portugal increased by 40 percent last year, according to the National Cybersecurity Center. Reported incidents include scams and serious cyberattacks. The increase has drawn criticism from both left and right political parties. Last year, incidents occurred via email, messaging, and social media platforms.
