Ukraine Simplifies Combatant ID Replacement Process

Ukraine has developed an AI-powered tool to help soldiers assess their eligibility for transfers between military units and the National Guard. The tool provides personalized recommendations and clarifies the process for service members seeking to change their posting. This initiative aims to streamline internal military movements and address personnel needs more efficiently. Ukraine has implemented an automated system for military service deferments. The process now occurs without human intervention in 90% of cases by verifying data through state registries. Deferments are automatically extended without requiring new applications or physical documents, with confirmations appearing in the Rezerv+ app. Most applications are now submitted via the Diia app. New categories eligible for automatic extension include parents raising children with disabilities. The Ministry of Defense has simplified the procedure for obtaining a new combatant identity card in cases of loss or theft. Additionally, the new process applies to discharged military personnel. Applicants no longer need to provide proof that the police have accepted and registered a report regarding the loss or theft.
