Google's 2019 Geofencing Practices Tracked 500 Million Users
In 2019, approximately one-third of all Google users, totaling around 500 million people, had their locations precisely recorded by Google. This was achieved by using multiple information sources to pinpoint the location of every person with an active cell phone within a geofence, even if the phone was not completely turned off. Google has since modified some of its geofencing policies.
