South Africa Withdraws National AI Policy
South Africa's Department of Communications and Digital Technologies has withdrawn its draft national AI policy. The text was reportedly riddled with errors caused by AI. The decision follows concerns regarding the quality of the legislative draft. South Africa's Minister of Communications and Digital Technologies withdrew a draft artificial intelligence bill on Sunday. The document, intended to provide regulatory direction and establish a national commission or ethics committee, was retracted after it was found to contain false references likely generated by algorithms. Home Affairs Minister Leon Schreiber announced a project to redevelop six key ports of entry across South Africa. The project aims to upgrade the country's border management and immigration systems.
