China Develops Automated Rebar Welding Robot
A smart production line for rebar placement and an integrated intelligent tower crane have been deployed for the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge project. A new intelligent rebar welding technology has been developed to fill a gap in industrial construction equipment. Cheng Maolin led a team that successfully developed the world's first intelligent rebar production line and an integrated intelligent tower crane system since June 2020. The robot addresses risks associated with manual welding of steel mesh, which contains at least 1,600 weld points per sheet. The technology aims to prevent steel mesh from falling from heights of 200 to 300 meters during construction. New automated rebar laying technology has filled a technical gap in industrial construction for both domestic and international markets.
