India Introduces Online Gaming Regulation Act 2025
India is set to implement new regulations for the online gaming sector starting in May 2026. Government estimates suggest three out of five people in India lack sufficient digital literacy to navigate technology safely. The Digital Empowerment Foundation argues that social media companies must be held accountable for youth usage. Experts note children in New Delhi are spending up to 14 hours daily on social media platforms. New regulations regarding online gaming advertising and financial lending will take effect tomorrow in India. The rules include a total ban on games involving real money stakes. Violations of these regulations will result in strict penalties, including imprisonment and fines. The measures aim to strengthen global partnerships and support the welfare of the Indian diaspora.
