Kenyan Runner Breaks Two-Hour Marathon Barrier
Kenyan runner Sebastian Solway became the first person to complete a marathon in under two hours. Commentator Steve Cram reported the achievement as Sawe crossed the finishing line. Two runners officially completed a marathon distance of 42.195 km in under two hours. A second runner, identified as Gelcha, finished in 1 hour 59 minutes and 41 seconds. Previous sub-two-hour marks were not officially recognized due to pacing conditions. One runner finished the 42.195 km course in 1 hour 59 minutes 30 seconds. Zoway expressed excitement regarding the result and thanked the public following the achievement. In the women's race, Kenyan runner Brilliant Keepcoach secured victory with a course record. Ethiopian runner Yomit Kachelcha finished in second place, 11 seconds behind Solway.
