Sebastian Sawi Honored In Nairobi After London Marathon
Kenyan runner Sebastian Sowie has returned home after becoming the first person to run a marathon in under two hours during competitive race conditions. Sebastian Sohe has returned to Kenya following a record-breaking sub-2-hour run at the London Marathon on Sunday. Jubilant celebrations were held to mark his achievement. Sowie was greeted at the airport with music, dancing, and a water cannon salute. President William Ruto attended the event to praise Sawi's achievement, describing it as a victory for the art of long-distance running. Sawi set a record for the fastest opening 5km at the Bolli Marathon with a time of 14:09. He noted that his performance was inspired by the legacy of the late athlete Kipchum. The performance was noted as the fastest men's marathon of 2025 and the fourth fastest in the history of the Bolli Marathon.
