NASA Artemis Programme Reaches Major Milestone

NASA's Odomis programme has passed a major milestone. China is also accelerating its own space plans with the goal of landing astronauts by 2030. The lunar space race is driven by the potential to access resources like helium-3 found on the moon's surface. These materials could potentially support human life in space and address resource shortages on Earth. Scientists are exploring the use of lunar water ice to support long-term human presence on the Moon. This ice is found mainly in shadowed craters near the lunar poles where temperatures drop below minus 150 degrees Celsius. The resource could provide essential oxygen, water, and food for lunar infrastructure. Transporting these supplies from Earth remains prohibitively expensive. The programme is described as distinct from the previous Apollo space programme. The milestone brings the mission closer to its long-term objectives of lunar and Martian exploration. The mission is expected to involve costs or sales totaling more than $200 million.
