Brain Implant Restores Sensation To Paralyzed Man
Brandon Patterson of Colorado has become the first person in the world to receive a new computer implant. The device features three ports installed on the top of his head that connect to external computers. These computers are designed to stimulate the brain's sensory and motor control. Patterson reports regaining sensation in his hands. He can now experience the sensation of thinking about moving his fingers. The device functions by stimulating specific neural pathways to bypass previous limitations. The technology aims to facilitate communication between the brain and external hardware. Clinical results indicate improvements in both sensory perception and motor functions. Daniel Kramer at the University of Colorado is leading the research team for the project. This technology is designed to assist individuals living with paralysis.
