AI Tool Predicts Cancer Survival Rates Via Aging Velocity

WBUR Boston Boston 51d51d Impact 5
Researchers at Mass General Brigham have developed an artificial intelligence tool named FaceAge. The tool scans photos of patients' faces to predict treatment outcomes. The study suggests that faster facial aging during cancer treatment correlates with worse survival results. Ray Mack, a Professor of Radiation Oncology at MGB's Cancer Institute, stated the tool analyzes how quickly a patient's biological age changes during treatment. The study reviewed photos of more than 2,000 cancer patients at various stages of treatment to measure aging velocity. This biological aging speed can indicate a patient's prognosis. The findings were reported by WBUR's Deborah Becker. The tool functions by scanning photos of people's faces.
